Meet Heavy Metal Trvp
HeavyMetal Trvp was raised in Richmond VA and made his way to Orlando FL where he really started to see his music grow. He has been making waves in the last couple of years due to his raw talent and uncommon music styling. His music and videos have been garnering millions of streams and views across the Web --and for good reason! There aren't too many that can create their own lane like he has and not many that can build up the type of following he has.
But, it wasn't all that easy. Trying to mesh Heavy Metal and Trap music into one genre was too different for the some listeners.
He explains that at first some people were not feeling his music because they always thought Heavy Metal was “devil worshiping music”. “That's white people shit” they would tell him. On the other hand, if you listened to music from artists like Gucci Mane you had to be so-called “ghetto”and you had to act more “black” says HeavyMetal Trvp.
He loved both genres of music of course as well as others. He didn't feel like being boxed in like many other musicians. He wasn't about to do what ever the “industry” told him was “hot”. Instead, he paved his own path and has had a lot of success doing it this way. He calls his genre of music Trap Rock.
Today his Trap Rock style of music is being played by a wide audience of music lovers ranging from young kids in suburban neighborhoods to the kids running the streets in the poor urban neighborhoods of today. Both “Metal Heads” and “Gang Bangers”, young and old alike, are feeling his music. HeavyMetal Trvp has managed to tap into something different within the music industry and that's why we wanted to highlight him in this issue.
When I asked him about his music making process he explains that he does things a little bit different than most other artists. First of all, he produces his own music! He makes his own beats, mixes and masters and writes everything himself. To me this is super impressive. He says that most of the time he likes to write his song WHILE he's making the beat. I feel like this is a huge portion of why he is able to create such creative unique music.
The music he makes has developed quite the following too. Enough so that he has toured in various parts of Europe and South America in addition to the U.S. But it wasn't always like that. HeavyMetal Trvp explained to me about the hardships an artist might endure in the journey to success. He says a lot of artists don't see the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes. “Most didn't see the many times I was struggling to make things happen” he says.
He remembers trying to figure out how to get to the venues with almost NO money. He tells me that there were times he slept in his car to ensure his place on that stage. He didn't care how he made it happen. He was determined to show up to each and every venue no matter how big or small. “I went all in” says HeavyMetal Trvp and he encourages new independent artists to do the same. “Don't half ass it” he says. I happen to agree. I constantly tell artists that this is a MARATHON not a sprint. Its not going to be handed to you. You have to grind your way to success.
As I sat there picturing his adventure in the entertainment world I start to think about his music again and how he's blended different genres into Hip-Hop but, in the end, the man's got BARZ! We listened to one of his tracks and it quickly became apparent that HeavyMetal Trvp was not playing with these rappers. He was out to chop heads off! His lyrical abilities were displayed in classic form on a track he calls World War III.
On this track he shows that he can spit with the best of them. This is one of the main reasons I think his music appeals to so many people. He manages to grab the attention of the “youngens” with this Autotuned vocal approach while at the same time appealing to us “Old Heads” with good old fashion bars-heavy content in his music. To me, that's the next wave to pop off. Someone that can cater to the largest possible audience like this has a much better chance at success – PERIOD.
But in the end, HeavyMetal Trvp knows his journey is just beginning. He sees himself as having to continue pushing his way to the top and will work hard to make it happen. Luckily he has good people around him that love and support him. I would like to include GZOO Radio in that category. We will be pushing for HeavyMetal Trvp for a long time to come. Thank you for the interview Heavy!
