Turn $500 into 250,000 streams on Spotify™?
If you are an indie artist with a small marketing budget you can take advantage of Spotify's massive platform. The main problem most have is that it's difficult to find good playlists to promote your music on. Getting on legitimate Spotify playlists can help so use these tips to get on good playlists and get more streams.
1. Use the search bar on top and type in your genre. It will bring up all related music sorted by “Songs”, “Artists”, “Albums” & “Playlists”. Click on Playlists >> See All and find INDEPENDENT playlists that aren't owned by Spotify. I usually search for playlists with 50k to 250k followers. Playlists with a huge following (1 Million or so) are usually either too expensive to get into or owned by someone with fake followers.
2. Figure out if it is a real list by looking at the songs on the playlist. If the play list has plenty of today's top hits (billboard top 100) -or- music from the hottest independent artists it shows that this user's music selections are popular songs that many others are likely to listen to. If you notice that most of the songs are NOT popular songs, if they are independent artists songs ONLY, it probably means that this user is just selling slots on their playlist to make money and it is not an actual “curated” playlist.
When you do find one that looks like a good playlists go down the list of songs they have on it. Find one that is an indie artist song and visit that artist's page. This playlist should be generating streams for that particular track and most of the time it will be getting more streams than the other tracks on the artist's page. This shows you that that artist's investment in the playlists might be working well for them.
3. Try to find the contact information for the owner of the playlist. They will usually have an email, Instagram page or some other social media platform listed. Contact them and ask them about getting your artist on the top 10 section of their playlist. Give them a link to the music so they can decide whether or not to accept your artist. If the music is well mixed and mastered it has a really good chance of getting in. After all, they are trying to make money with their playlist but, it is also important to have music with QUALITY similar to the big name artists' music.
By using this information you could make from $800-$900 in stream revenue but, more importantly, you will also get FOLLOWERS that will listen to your new music, buy your merchandise and buy tickets to your shows.
